The proverb says "prevention is better than cure." The cause of many costly
disasters is nothing more than a small crack or a broken seal--typical problems that could
easily be prevented with the simple application of a sealant or coating.
To avoid the consequence and cost of
intervention or restoration you need to develop a prevention plan-the best of which
begins on the drawing board. Richmond Primoid works closely with architectural firms,
builders, and general contractors to design systems that address the cycle of changes that
occur as a structure ages. We also work with the owners and managers of existing
properties who recognize the importance of structural maintenance and want to update their

Keep the water out
One of the most important decisions you make about a new structure is how to keep water
from penetrating its surfaces. Well recommend a membrane to bridge the inevitable
cracks and provide seamless waterproofing of slabs and foundations, masonry products that
chemically bond with substrates to form a water repellent surface, a roofing system that
keeps tenants dry and lowers energy costs, and elastomeric caulks that will keep seams dry

INTERVENTION
We live in an age of advanced engineering. Many modern buildings are constructed with
veneers that only simulate the substantial structures of the past. Though these
advancements have produced a far more practical model, modern buildings rely on a somewhat
volatile combination of flashings and weep systems to keep the moisture out.
Fix problems promptly
Unprotected surfaces and surfaces where the protection is worn or failed, begin to show
signs of deterioration. Acting promptly often means the difference between a short visit
and a long stay. Richmond Primoid finds and fixes the causes then repairs cracks,
resurfaces floors, and secures exterior veneer and metal roofs with waterproofing caulks,
sealants and coatings.
Find the hidden problems
Sometimes the deterioration of a structure is less obvious. Richmond Primoid has the
equipment and experience to find the problems you cant see. We erect staging to
detect subtle structural movement and probe to find subterranean activity. We inject voids
with injection epoxies or repair mortars to keep water out. And we chemically seal
internal structures and apply moisture resistant coatings.

RESTORATION
Sometimes you inherit a problem or a structure simply fails--the damage is done. Though
Richmond Primoid is well known for prevention and intervention, we are perhaps best known
for our ability to stabilize and restore basic structures.
Find the cause, apply the fix
The bigger it is, the harder it falls--massive concrete beams, columns, and decks are far
more vulnerable to deterioration than we like to think. Settlement, thermal movement, and
shrinkage open cracks that allow moisture to begin its destructive work. Our experts will
analyze the problem and create a plan to pinpoint the cause, fix the problem, and restore
the structure. We stabilize failed concrete, remove debris, and do the all-important site
preparation. Then we restore the structure with a composite material tougher than the
original.

our masonry expertise. As a primary contractor in the restoration of the historic Tredegar
Iron Works in Richmond, we stabilized and re-pointed a 500 foot brick wall, restored
